Titles in the Working Classics series:
What Is Anarchism?, by Alexander Berkman, is perhaps the first and best exposition of anarchism by one of its greatest propagandists and thinkers. In a clear conversation with the reader, Berkman discusses society as it now exists, the need for anarchism and the methods for bringing it about. With forewards by Emma Goldman and Barry Pateman. Anarcho-Syndicalism: Theory and Practice is Rudolf Rocker's political and philosophical masterpiece. He offers an introduction to anarchist ideas, a history of the international workers movement, and an outline of the strategies and tactics embraced at the time (internationalism, federalism, anti-militarism, direct action, sabotage, and the General Strike). With an introduction from Noam Chomsky and a preface by Nicolas Walter.
In Post-Scarcity Anarchism, Murray Bookchin balances his ecological and anarchist vision with the promising opportunities of a "post-scarcity" era. Bookchin's utopian vision, rooted in the realities of contemporary society, remains refreshingly pragmatic. Perhaps his most influential collection of essays (including the legendary "Listen Marxist" and "Ecology And Revolutionary Thought"), with a new preface from the author.
And the latest installment in the series, The Conquest of Bread, is Peter Kropotkin's most extensive study of human needs and his outline of the most rational and equitable means of satisfying them. Writing in a style that he describes as "moderate in tone, but revolutionary in substance," Kropotkin translates complex ideas into common language. With a new introduction by Charles Weigl.
